ADR is generally understood to be a reference to dispute resolution procedures other than litigation. With the construction industry increasingly using contracts that are intended to be less adversarial, together with changes in legislation such as the Housing Grants, Construction and Regeneration Act ,1996, use of ADR procedures has shown a significant increase. Although there are many categories of ADR procedures and indeed even more variations of each category, the most frequently used ADR procedures include:
